Significance of the House Name

Rangiuru was a chieftainess of Tapuika, a Te Arawa hapu from the Te Puke area.

Rangiuru was reputed to be a woman of great beauty and married Whakaue Kaipapa a chief of Uenuku Kopako.

In time Whakaue became the eponymous founder of Ngati Whakaue that we know today. Their home was Kaiweka, on the island of Mokoia situated in the middle of Lake Rotorua. Rangiuru's children were Tawakeheimoa, Tuteaiti, Ngararanui, Tutanekai and Tuparaharanui.

Rangiuru house colour is green.
