

Significance of the House Name
Rukuwai was a descendant of Tia who was an uncle of Tamatekapua, the captain of the Te Arawa Waka.
Rukuwai came from Tapuika in the Te Puke area and married Tunohopu a great grandson of Whakaue-Kaipapa.
There are many Whakaue marae and Rukuwai is remembered as the dining
room and Tunohopu the meeting house on one of the three marae at
Ohinemutu.
Rukuwai house colour is yellow.
